Dr. Michael L. Dewar M.D. FACS, FRCD

Dr. Dewar practices adult cardiac valve and coronary
artery surgery. He maintains a special practice in aortic valve
pathology performing the Ross procedure, aortic valve repair and
aortic homograft replacements. As a member of Club Mitral he specializes
in complex mitral valve repair and Maze procedures. He performs
minimally invasive coronary bypass surgery and has experience with
500 beating-heart bypasses. He has authored numerous academic papers
and participates in the International Ross Registry.
Dr. Dewar is
also an assistant clinical professor of cardiothoracic
surgery at Yale University School of Medicine
and an Honorary Professor of Cardiac Surgery at the University
School of Medicine at St. Petersburg, Russia.

Dr. Passik has practiced adult cardiac surgery in New
Haven since 1988. He is currently the Associate Section Chief of
Cardiothoracic Surgery at Yale-New Haven Hospital. His special interests
include surgical treatment of the elderly and the use of SVR (Surgical
Ventricular Restoration) in the treatment of heart failure secondary
to coronary artery disease.
He has published on many different aspects
of cardiothoracic surgery including aortic and mitral valve pathology,
aortic valve and arch replacement, as well as the treatment of
cardiac tumors, chest infections, cardiac pacemakers, and new medical
device
engineering. He serves as a consultant to the U.S. Surgical Corporation
and on the scientific advisory board to Cardiopulmonary Corp. and
Ivy
Medical. Dr. Passik is currently in the process of developing
innovative devices for patient care monitoring.

Dr. Richard K. Shaw, M.D., FACS
Dr. Shaw has practiced adult cardiac surgery since 1976.
His special interests include coronary
revascularization with sequential arterial conduits. He has the
largest regional experience in the use of stentless porcine aortic
valve replacement. He has developed programs for the use of endoscopic
vein harvesting at both Yale-New Haven Hospital and The Hospital
of Saint Raphael.
Dr. Shaw takes an active role in the educational program for residents
and medical students at both hospitals. His long-standing interest
in the precise collection of data has resulted in a unique database
consisting of 11,000 patients operated on by him and his colleagues
since 1980. This database allows the immediate recall of clinical
information pertaining to any patient and provides the basis for
data analysis.
